This quote perfectly sums up the power of “reframing”: a tool I use a lot in hypnotherapy sessions. I’ve seen how this simple shift in perspective can be life-changing for clients struggling with stress, anxiety, low mood and phobias. Some people might look at this photo and be captivated by the miles of open fields and wide, beautiful space. Others, however, might focus on how high up I am and feel a sense of fear, thinking, "She could easily fall and hurt herself!" Reframing isn’t about ignoring reality; it’s about finding a perspective that empowers you instead of keeping you stuck. When clients feel overwhelmed by negative thoughts or emotions, their brain often defaults to a fear-based perspective, which can amplify feelings of helplessness. Through hypnotherapy, we guide clients to challenge these unhelpful thought patterns and reframe their experiences. For example, instead of seeing the long to-do list or the Christmas holiday responsibilities as overwhelming, we can reframe them as opportunities to connect with people or practice setting boundaries that protect our mental health. Reframing encourages clients to move from, “why is this happening to me?” to “what are the positives aspects of this experience?” This subtle shift allows them to access solutions, develop resilience and regain a sense of control.
