Just a small £55 billion!!! Stamp Duty Absolute daylight robbery In recent years, it’s brought in… £13.88 billion (2024/25) £11.61 billion (2023/24) £15.36 billion (2022/23) £14.10 billion (2021/22) That’s over £55 billion taken from buyers just for the pleasure of moving house, investing or trying to build homes And to be quite frank, who thinks stamp duty is fair I reckon it’s in a top of the table clash with inheritance tax as to which one is the most hated Why? It puts people off moving - especially downsizers It penalises anyone with a second home Property sales get ‘sticky’ around the band changes Even HMRC admits it slows the housing market Just when we need more housing and people moving home, this tax does the exact opposite What would you do with this tax? Scrap it? Reform it? Keep as is? I'm curious to know what others think
