If you like your own posts on platforms like Facebook & LinkedIn... It kills your reach. I've seen a couple of Social Media trainers advocating to like your own posts to help fuel engagement but this is totally misguided. If you like or comment on your own post within the first hour, the algorithms instantly down rank your post. The first hour a post goes live is what is called the 'Test Phase'. Usually a social media platform will present the post to a select group of people most likely to engage in your content based on keyword analysis. If this audience does engage at a significant ratio, the post will then reach the second phase, where the audience increases significantly. This process repeats until the engagement slows down or you hit viral status. If you like or engage with your own post in the first hour, you are trying to dupe the process of the platform and the algorithms trigger a de-valuing response to the reach and most of the time it won't extend out of the first test phase. Of course this doesn't apply to UKHN as we have no selective algorithms deciding reach but if you don't believe me, give it a try. Try 2 high quality posts a week apart. Use good imagery, a long-form emotive post (no Selling) and post it at the same time on the same day on different weeks and see what kind of reach you get. Share the results and let me know.
