East Peckham Parish Council is preparing to spend up to £3,000 on planning consultants to challenge Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council’s draft Local Plan, which earmarks the village for up to 586 new homes. Chairman Mark Williams said the plans would “enormously expand the village”, threatening greenbelt land, local infrastructure, and flooding resilience. With the school already full and public transport limited, residents fear the village can’t cope. A public meeting will be held Friday, October 24, at the Jubilee Hall, as the parish looks to organise its own community consultations. A local petition calling on the government to rethink housing targets for Kent has already gathered over 33,000 signatures — and could reach Parliament if it hits 100,000 by November 14.
