This plant-based sausage packaging is a perfect example of how branding can go wrong and how perception changes everything in an instance (and leads to unrecoverable damage!) The same rules apply to commercial finance. Many businesses and property investors have strong turnover, profit and EBITDA, but if the financials aren’t packaged in a clear way or the business model is not explained, the lenders will simply say “NO.” Some of the shocking examples I have seen include: 💠 A property portfolio landlord not disclosing void rental periods and operating costs, so therefore positioning gross and net income incorrectly. 💠Inflated cash flow forecasts that cannot be easily explained. 💠 A businesses management accounts show strong turnover, however, the cash flow position and forecast have no substance. Any lending application needs clear financial structuring and storytelling. If lenders don’t understand your model, they won’t fund it. Presentation matters, whether it’s plant based sausages or your balance sheet!
