Who actually handles "bona vacantia" assets in the UK? There are three main bodies: 1.) Bona Vacantia Division (the BVD): which is part of the Government Legal Department that handles most dissolved company assets in England & Wales...except those in the Duchies. 2.) Crown Estate: manages certain freehold interests that escheat (transfer) to the Crown. 3.) Duchy of Lancaster & Duchy of Cornwall: handle BV assets in their respective areas. Most referrals go to BVD via the BVC2 form....and that’s where the process usually starts. It's a simple structure, but not many people know who to contact, or where to begin.
