My 14-year-old son William recently completed part of his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. He chose sailing ⛵️ and darts 🎯 enthusiastically. Volunteering through Men’s Prosperity Club feeding the homeless in Walsall? Less so. But over several months, something shifted. More importantly, the fortnightly car journeys with his mentor, Ronaldo Hare, became informal masterclasses in mindset, business, health and resilience. I work in men’s mental health and coach high-achieving men. A recurring theme is young men lacking direction, mentorship and purpose. Watching William build those foundations reminded me how powerful these experiences are: - Responsibility. - Conversation. - Challenge. - Community. Which brings me to an ask: I’m looking for a work experience placement for William (he’ll be 15 by then, Year 10) for w/c 29th June in Birmingham/West Midlands. He’s interested in business, computing, cyber security, CAD, interior architecture - anything where he can see how things work in the real world. If your organisation ever takes students for short placements, or you know someone who does, I’d genuinely value a conversation. I’m not just looking for a box-tick. I’m looking for what Ronaldo gave him through DofE - exposure to how adults think, work, solve problems, and show up. That week could really shape his trajectory. Thank you 🙏🏼
