UK Property Taxes The Telegraph [18 May] has confirmed what we all suspected; the UK has the highest property taxes in the world. The right leaning newspaper helpfully added further menace. With the Labour Panto in full swing, lead performer and bookies favourite Mayor Burnham was quoted previously as saying assets and wealth are “undertaxed” and believes council tax bands should be revalued. As Greater Manchester Mayor he announced a 20% rise in mayoralty taxes this February. His main rival in the leadership race [ the race Sir Keir will never agree to] the ‘ saviour' of the NHS - Mr Streeting - has previously backed his old leader and now adviser to Sir Keir, Gordon Brown who famously aligned capital gains tax to income tax rates. Prior to last November’s budget we were genuinely concerned at a “leak” concerning the removal of the capital gains tax exemption on our homes. Quite what happens next is almost akin to “Oh no he’s not” in panto parlance. We are adding counselling to our proposition...
