Exhibiting is not for everyone. You need a strategy. Yesterday @Rich Devenport and I got interviewed by Business Voices TV at the @Property Developer Show and we got asked about how you make a trade show a success? My answer was pretty direct. You have to come prepared and that doesn’t mean nice leaflets and roller banners. The room is a chess board with multiple moving parts. If you sit behind your table on your phone, you’ll miss everything. Here’s what I do step by step: First is assessing the direction of movement. Humans naturally follow the crowd, which means you will notice them walking around the venue in the same direction. After 30 minutes I will angle my banners face-on in the direction of the crowd. That means theirs no excuse not to see my banners. I stand in front of my table. Not behind. There can’t be a physical barrier between me and oncoming customers. Declutter! A stand can be overwhelming, if there’s too much going on and it looks messy people can be put-off. Phone and coffee cups are hidden. Leaflets/merch and QR codes are the only thing on display. Lastly, if you have the luxury of having more than one person in your team. One should be fixed to the stand at all times, whilst the other proactively networks around the room, either with attendees or other exhibitors. This is just a handful of my non-negotiable rules when I’m exhibiting. If you found this useful, let me know in the comments and I’ll share more.
