Good advice doesn't always come from multi millionaires or billionaires. One of the people who had a significant influence on the way I think about property was my first manager in my estate agency job, where I worked for free for 3 months back in 2001. I still remember three things he told me. - The 1st was, "Property is a marathon, not a sprint." - The 2nd was, "You make your money on the way in." - The 3rd was, “We’re selling dreams.” At the time, they were just comments. But years later I realised they were principles. The first taught me not to focus on shortcuts or compare my progress to anyone else's whilst also not expecting over night success being in the property sector. The second changed the way I assessed every deal, ensuring I buy at the right price and don’t rush head first offering asking prices just to secure the deal. You need to buy at the right price with your margin factored in from the very beginning. The third is that we are truly helping people realise their ambitions of owning the largest asset they will ever acquire. A roof over their head, a place to feel safe and grow from, whilst also an investment that will either help them through retirement or create generational wealth for their family. I've read many books, watched many YouTube videos (even started creating my own) and listened to podcasts since then. But those 3 lessons have stayed with me more than anything else.
