Hands up Landlords who thinks 2030 is really far away? Because its going to come sooner than you think! (Pic of me in front of a castle that def isn't going to meet a C rating...) One of my landlords last week asked when we should look at renewing EPC's ahead of the new regulations, and my advice is, unless you want a big bill for works and a rush to be compliant, start looking at what needs to be done now. With the Government confirming plans to raise minimum energy efficiency standards for rented properties to the equivalent of an EPC C by 2030, now is the time to start planning, not panicking. Before spending any money, take a look at the recommendations section on your current EPC. You will likely find some simple improvements that could significantly improve your rating. ✅ Upgrade to LED lighting  ✅ Increase loft insulation  ✅ Install smart heating controls  ✅ Add thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs)  ✅ Upgrade older boilers  ✅ Improve glazing and draught-proofing Many D-rated properties can move closer to a C with a few simple improvements. What you can be doing now; ✔ Download your current EPC  ✔ Check its expiry date  ✔ Review the recommended improvements  ✔ Identify properties below a C rating  ✔ Obtain quotes for any required works  ✔ Budget ahead of the 2030 deadline  ✔ Get a new assessment after improvements The landlords who will be in the strongest position by 2030 are the ones taking action today.
